Compassionate Friends annual candle lighting Dec. 14

The Highland Rim Chapter of The Compassionate Friends will host its annual candle lighting to honor the memory of children who have died.

“The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting will take place on the second Sunday in December, uniting family and friends around the globe in lighting candles for one hour to honor the memories of the sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, and grandchildren who left too soon,” organizers said.

The candle lighting will take place on Sunday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Activity Center at The Church of Christ at Cedar Lane, located at 1200 Cedar Lane. Those planning to attend are asked to arrive at 6:30 p.m., and to bring a portrait of their child, no larger than 8×10, and holiday food to share with others for the potluck taking place afterwards. Family and friends are also welcome to attend.

“The ceremony creates a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone,” organizers said.  “Hundreds of formal candle lighting events are held, and thousands of informal candle lightings take place in homes, as families gather in quiet remembrance of children who have died and will never be forgotten.
