By the numbers – Sales tax collections increase

Retail sales tax collections remained strong in Tullahoma during September. In September, 2024 sales tax collections were $1,556,292. In September, 2025 sales tax collections were $1,642,482. An increase of 5.54% year over year.

In Manchester, sales tax collections were up 2.45% year over year in October and rural Coffee County sales tax collections were up 6.58% year over year.

For the first four months of the current fiscal year, sales tax collections in Tullahoma are up a very strong 9.84% over the first four months of the last fiscal year.

Tennessee’s sales taxes are generally collected on the retail sale, rental or lease of most tangible goods like clothing, electronics, furniture or jewelry. Sales taxes are also collected when a company makes investments in infrastructure and equipment.

In October, ten companies received business licenses from the city government. Five of the companies have store fronts and five appear to be home based companies.

Forty two companies or individuals received building permits from city government in October for a total of $8,178,386 in new investment. There were eight home starts with an average valuation of $302,657. Three apartment or townhome permits were pulled and one three unit commercial permit pulled.

In October 2024, 37 babies were born at Vanderbilt Tullahoma Harton Hospital. In October 2025, 45 babies were born at Vanderbilt Tullahoma Harton Hospital, an increase of 22%.

The Middle Tennessee Association of Realtors reported 34 homes were sold in Tullahoma in October, an increase from 29 in October 2024. There were 60 new listings in October for a total inventory of 222 homes. The average sale price of the 34 new homes was $359,897. The average days on the market in October 2025 was 53 compared to 29 last October.

The state of Tennessee does not provide unemployment statistics by city but by county. In September 2025, 3.6% of eligible residents in Coffee County were unemployed. In August 2025, 4.5% of residents were unemployed and in September 2024 3.4% of residents were unemployed in Coffee County.

Tullahoma collects a lodging tax every time someone stays in one of the hotels and motels in Tullahoma. Last year in October, the city government collected $29,795 in lodging taxes. This year in October, the city government collected $40,036 in lodging taxes, an increase of 34%.
