The Glow

K

If you are like me, Christmas decorating begins the day after Thanksgiving! The joy it brings my family and my home is a breath of fresh air after a long year. As I watched my husband string the lights on our tree, I could not help but think about how beautiful the glow of the lights are. We are always so excited to get the tree up and decorated, but the excitement soon fades and the glow seems to dim after a while. This can also be true with our walk as Christians. When we are illuminated with the light of Jesus at the beginning of our journey we are so excited, but as the battles come we lose sight and often time our glow also seems to fade. I can personally relate to this happening many times in my journey thus far. When life is exciting, joyous and full of light it is easy to share God’s love, but when the hard times come we lose focus. What are some things that happen to cause us to lose that glow?

1. Life. We get so bogged down in the normalcy of the everyday that we forget Who created the day. Don’t let this season of busy cause you to forget the treasure that awaits each morning.

2. We forget our purpose. As a Mommy to a ten-year-old and four year old I have often wondered if I have forgotten my purpose in the chaos of “Mommyhood”. I am reminded that being a Mother and wife is the greatest honor but being a vessel for God’s Word is truly a calling I cannot allow the enemy to steal from me.

3. We neglect spending time with God. As the holiday season is in full swing, we often forget to read our devotionals, study the Word, listen to sermons and fill our hearts with the true reason for the season. I encourage you to stay the course during this time.

If you feel as though you have lost your glow today, I would ask you to look back at a time when you felt most excited. What were your past victories that caused your heart to explode with gratitude for what God had done? Reflecting back on the past is a wonderful reminder of His faithfulness when we are feeling distant in our walk. “But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions.” Hebrews 10:32. Just like the illumination of a Christmas tree we too should strive to be the glow in the eyes of all those who we encounter. You may be the only sign of Jesus a stranger sees today! As you prepare your hearts and homes for this Christmas season I pray you don’t lose your glow. Always remember that tomorrow is a new exciting day full of God’s mercy and blessings if we only stay plugged in!

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16.

Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

Blessings,

Kayla
