Well I just read with interest that the Tullahoma School Board would like to skip the search process for a new Director and hire Dr. Norris into that position. From the article in the News, it seems most of the board is ready to go with that plan. But, perhaps we should slow down and consider if that is the best for our school system. I have no information on Dr. Norris and she may be the best candidate. But we won’t know if we don’t search. And part of that search has to be do we want a status quo or a forward direction? Do we want an International Baccalaureate? What about gifted & talented? Increased focus on science & engineering? Increased vocational & technical opportunities? I for one would like to see different candidates and how they view the future of our schools. The world has changed significantly in the past 20 years. Do we want a school system designed for the year 2000 or for kids who will graduate in the 2040s? That’s the world kids born today will be graduating into.
