Corbin Avans nominated for best Nashville-area boys wrestler

GRAY DEYOSports Writer

Ahead of the TSSAA state championships, Corbin Avans, junior member of the Tullahoma wrestling team, was nominated by The Tennessean for the top Nashville area boys’ wrestler.

Avans, as he has in his two prior seasons for THS, has put forth an outstanding regular season of wrestling. In his matches thus far this year, he has a record of 27-5. The same skill he has shown in the prior two seasons has not dissipated whatsoever. He looks in form to make a meaningful run in the individual postseason.

In the last two seasons, Avans has qualified for the individual state tournament and has placed second at state in both his sophomore and freshman seasons. These accolades, along with his current success this season, helped him be one of the nominees for this award of top boys’ athlete in the Nashville Area before the TSSAA postseason.

Outside of Avans, eight other wrestlers were listed as nominees. Those grapplers include: Jake Stinnett (Upperman), Zachery Little (Summit), Madox Eskew (Ravenwood), Wyatt Elder (Page), Brodie Melzoni (Nolensville), Tanner Tran (Father Ryan), Tristan Collier (Green Hill), and Landon McLean (Blackman).

All nine of these wrestlers on this list have at least one of these feats to their name: Division I signee, state champ, state runner-up, or regular-season champ.
