The police department will be replacing a vehicle which was totaled in an accident, the cost of the new purchase just north of $22K.

Insurance money from the accident claim will pay for most of the $22,826 price tag for the 2024 Chevrolet Equinox that will be purchased from Russell Barnett Ford in Winchester.

The vehicle will replace a patrol vehicle that is assigned to administration. The administration patrol vehicle will be reassigned to the SRO division.

The board of mayor and aldermen unanimously approved the expenditure.

Along with the patrol vehicle, the board also agreed to fund four new laptop computers at a price not to exceed $15,000. Mayor Lynn Sebourn pointed out that while the price may sound steep for computers, the ones being ordered for the police are highly technical.

It was explained the laptops are hardened so they will not break if dropped. They are the laptops that go inside the patrol cars. The purchase will be funded by a state grant and they will be bought from Waypoint.
