A Century of Stories
What can 100 years teach us about living well? Tennessee’s centenarians have plenty of answers: work hard, stay active, love your family, serve others, keep your faith and eat your vegetables.
Brain can’t think
Isat down with my computer and a cup of coffee to write this week’s article, but before I started, I asked my four-year old what Mama’s “topic” should be. Of course I was only teasing, but I did want to see what God may place on his little heart. He pondered and pondered, asked me questions and even tried to divert my question to his older sister but eventually he said “Mama, my brain can’t think.”
Looking back on change
What comes to mind when you hear the word change? A zillion things come to my head mind when I hear the word CHANGE! It is one of my favorite words, and I think of it as an acronym as it can be used in so many situations. As an acronym, it can apply to many situations such as “Citizens having a new growth experience” or “Children having a new growth experience” or even “Communities having a new growth experience”.
The great American political circus
Ladies, gentlemen, and the increasingly large number of people who identify as “exhausted,” welcome to the Greatest Show on Earth: The United States of America, where the political process has evolved from a system of checks and balances into a high-stakes reality show that determines which party controls our nuclear weapons. Democrats now must bow to the DSA, which is the rising communist wing of the party. And communism is like veganism: Both are fine unless you like food. American politics has reached a level of sophistication previously reserved for middleschool cafeteria arguments and Twitter (sorry, X) quote-tweets. The two major parties, those ancient and venerable institutions, have long since abandoned the quaint notion of governing in favor of a perpetual performative theater of the absurd.
What happened to the friendly skies?
Ivividly remember my first flight. Chattanooga to Memphis, in the late 1960s. My oldest sister had moved there, and my mom and I went to see her. As a kid, I was fascinated. The plane was just like I had seen in the commercials: smiling stewardesses fetching me food and drinks, and space age transportation much like the Jetsons cartoons.

USA not DSA
Emerging from the swampy underbelly of the Democrat party is a slithering beast called DSA. Democrat Socialists of America is the name; communism is the endgame. The origins of this virus are in our liberal education system, where overpaid and tenured professors and teachers romanticize the history of socialism to young kids as they load them up on entitlement and student loan debt in pursuit of a worthless degree in “humanities.”
Power Trip
If there is ever a time in history to be cognizant of those around you and even in your circle, it is now. I believe the enemy is on special assignment to create a hierarchy within society that causes divide, unrest and hurt. I am currently studying the book of Daniel in which King Nebuchadnezzar ordered his court to bring him young Israelite boys so that he could teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians. He would assign them daily amount of food and wine from the king’s table and train them for three years to which they would then enter the king’s service. If you have studied the book of Daniel, you may remember that Daniel and his friends refused the king’s food and instead followed the dietary laws in which God had spoken.
I count off for spelling
More than a few times over the years, I’ve filled this space with “Facebook Fails” or “Autocorrect Accidents,” a collection of unfortunate misspellings. These word mishaps are caused by technology, confusion, a lack of spelling smarts, or all of the above. I have earned a reputation in my workplace as a stickler when it comes to spelling.
