Brenda Katherine Mathis of Tullahoma passed away on Monday, June 10, 2024 surrounded by her family at the age of 76. Mrs. Mathis was born in Shelbyville to the late E.C. Howard and Lena Cyree Howard. Brenda was a Saved woman of faith, and a member of Trinity Christian Fellowship Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, known affectionately as “Mimi” to not only her family, but the many children she babysat for over 40 years. Brenda loved shopping, singing, and trips to Gatlinburg, but more than anything, she loved being with her family. Those who loved her will remember her beautiful blue eyes, her sense of humor, and her compassion and caring for others. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mathis was greeted in Heaven by her son, Troy Mathis; baby sister, Virginia Howard; her parents-in-law, William Floyd and Lota Mae Mathis; four brothers, Daryl Howard, Charles Shumake, Paul Howard, and Jerry Howard; and one sister, Frances Reece. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Cecil Mathis; one son, Jeff Mathis (Wendy); two daughters, Dawn Ladd (Elliott), and Kimberley Mathis; and one daughter-in-law, Linda Mathis; fourteen grandchildren, Kalli Mathis, Sloan Wiggs, Amber Skidmore (Josh), Samantha Mathis, Breigh Filson (Sawyer), Brody Mathis, Kristen Grant (Bradley), Eberley Holloway, Emily Mathis, Jake Mathis (Carley), Garrett Mathis, Shyne Wiggs, Alexya Laws, and Brittany Cunningham (Jon); six great-grandchildren, Isiah, Adin, and Asher Skidmore, Harlow Grant, and Annistyn and Ramsey Cunningham; two brothers, Donnie Howard (Becky), and Billy Howard (Frances); and many nieces, nephews, family, friends.

Visitation for Mrs. Mathis was held on Wednesday, June 12 at Kilgore Funeral Home. Funeral services took place Thursday, June 13 in the Kilgore Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Stephen Reeves officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
