Tim Campbell, Obituary

The family of Tim Campbell is heartbroken to announce his passing on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024. He died at his beloved Tullahoma home surrounded by his family and listening to his favorite music.

We wish to invite our friends and family to a celebration of life to remember Tim, enjoy his favorite food and drink, and share stories and remembrances. The celebration has been set for 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, at Daddy Billy’s in Tullahoma, a favorite place of Tim’s since 1980. Please join us.

Tim’s death on Thanksgiving Day was a bittersweet tribute to a man whose favorite thing in life was cooking for family and friends. He was a man of various interests and a curious mind, and that led him to pursue many passions throughout his life. He never met a problem he couldn’t solve except for the leukemia he battled for two years. He was an amateur race car driver, rebuilt vintage cars, played the guitar, coached his children and others in basketball, soccer and baseball, and sang in church and civic choirs and in the Trinity Lutheran Church barbershop quartet. He rode mountain and street bicycles, and in 2006 he participated in the Chattanooga 3 State 3 Mountain, 100-mile bike ride.

Tim was an avid beer connoisseur, even brewing and bottling his own concoctions from the House of Tim Brewing. Tim designed and built furniture for his children and grandchildren. He also served as project manager for the construction of Luther Hall at Trinity Lutheran Church in Tullahoma. His favorite times were family vacations, camping and hiking trips in a teardrop trailer with his wife, working in the garage while watching football, working on his pet project – the restoration of a 1969 Porsche 911e – and get-togethers, when he could prepare his favorite dishes for all to enjoy.

He was an amazing son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend for 67 years. We will miss him forever. Timothy Allen Campbell was born on Dec. 22, 1956, in Chattanooga to the late Archibald Argyle and Dorothy Swanson Campbell. He graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He later earned an MBA from Brenau University in Gainesville, Ga. With the exception of a few years, Tim spent most of his career at AEDC, where he often said he “got to do cool stuff.” He began as a test engineer, and at the time of his retirement in 2021 he was Mission Capital Projects Branch Manager. He also earned the title of Professional Engineer.

Tim was the husband of 40 years of Susan Radford Campbell, of Tullahoma. He was Dad to Shelley Campbell, of Murfreesboro; Colin Campbell and his wife, Chelsea Campbell, of Ringgold, Ga.; and Leah Campbell, of Silver Spring, Md. He was Pops to Carley Martin, of Murfreesboro; and Darwin, Hartwell and Smith Campbell, all of Ringgold. He was a brother to Janet Campbell Bradley and her husband, Scott Bradley, and Bruce Campbell, all of Chattanooga.

Tim’s family laid him to rest on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Larkspur Conservation in Westmoreland, Tennessee’s nature preserve for natural burial. Phillips-Robinson Funeral Home in Nashville was in charge of the arrangements. For those who wish to make a memorial donation, please consider the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at https://www.lls.org.
