Renate Bates Obituary
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved aunt, Renate Bates, who peacefully departed this life on Dec. 10, 2024, at the age of 88.
Born March 20, 1936, in Berlin, Germany, Renate immigrated to the United States in the 1950’s bringing with her a strong work ethic, resilience, and warmth of her homeland. She embraced her new community with an open heart, creating a life filled with love, service, and cherished memories.
Though Renate had no children of her own, she poured her boundless love into her nieces and nephews, treating each as her own. Her wisdom, kindness, abundant generosity, and spirit shaped our lives in ways words cannot fully express.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Master Sergeant Lacy Bates, with whom she shared a beautiful partnership of over 50 years. Together, they were a cornerstone of their community, offering support, friendship, and faith to all who knew them. Also preceded in death by her siblings, Arthur Kornprobst (Ruth), Erika Kornprobst Mosso, Irene Kornprobst (Werner), Heinze Kornprobst (Christiana).
Renate is survived by her devoted nieces Sabina Mosso-Taylor (Danny) of Columbia, SC, Maria Mosso, Manchester, TN, Katja Kornprobst (Hans) Germany and nephews Frank Mosso (Arunya) San Antonio, TX, Stefan Kornprobst (Martina) and Axel Kornprobst (Kathrin) Germany. She also leaves behind great nieces Megan Standing (Brandon), Charlotte Kornprobst; great nephews Carson Mosso, Evan Taylor, Felix Kornprobst; and great-great nieces and nephews all who will forever treasure her legacy of unconditional love.
In addition to her biological family, she leaves behind a beloved extended family of church members, who were a source of joy and fellowship throughout her later years of life.
The family welcomed visitors to celebrate Renate’s life on Dec. 13, 2024, at Manchester Funeral Home on the square. Renate’s funeral services were held at Manchester Funeral Home. Burial immediately following at The Head of Hurricane Cemetery, Lynchburg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Trinity Baptist Church – Building Fund, reflecting her lifelong commitment to giving back to others.
Renate will be remembered for her laughter, her nurturing spirit, and her unwavering faith. She was a beacon of love and grace, and her light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her.
May she rest in eternal peace.
