William Odell Crutchfield Obituary
Mr. William Odell Crutchfield, age 64, of Murfreesboro, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on March 12, 1960, in Tullahoma to the late James and Willie Mae “Mrs. Bill” Crutchfield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Deborah Crutchfield and Della Sharp.
A 1978 graduate of Tullahoma High School, Odell was a standout basketball player, known for his exceptional skills on the court. After high school, he attended Belmont University and MTSU, furthering his education. He later earned an associate degree in Fire Science and another in Mortuary Science from John A. Gupton College.
Odell proudly served in the United States Army for four years and was a man of deep Christian faith. He was also a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. “Que Dog”, where he formed lifelong bonds with his brothers.
He dedicated 25 years to serving as a firefighter with the City of Tullahoma, before retiring from AEDC. In addition to his fire service career, he worked as a Licensed Funeral Director/Embalmer at J.A. Welton & Son Funeral Home and other local funeral homes.
He had a great passion for playing golf, which he enjoyed in his free time. Known as a gentle giant, Odell’s family describes him as always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His kindness, dedication, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Tracy Crutchfield; sisters, Emma (Jimmy) Coleman and Toni London; brothers, Rev. James A. (Sonja) Crutchfield, Jr. and Frank (Norma) Crutchfield; father and mother in-law, Thomas and Birdie Farris; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation, Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025 from 11 a.m. — noon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with funeral services following at noon with Minister Jimmy Coleman, officiating and Rev. James A. Crutchfield, Jr., eulogist.
