Marilyn Reid Narkates Obituary

Marilyn Reid Narkates peacefully passed from this life on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 79 years of age. She was a lifelong resident of Tullahoma and a pillar in her community.

Beginning as a young employee, but eventually becoming the proprietor of A & R Glass Company, her career spanned fifty years in Tullahoma. As a shrewd business woman, but also known for her integrity and strong work ethic, she was highly regarded in the city’s business community, and her legacy in the commercial glass industry reaches across Middle Tennessee. Marilyn loved Tullahoma and was an active citizen in the place she called home. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the Ladies Sunday School Class at First Baptist, Tullahoma; she was active with the Tullahoma Woman’s Club, and she very much enjoyed her Friday Night Bowling League. Marilyn was devoted to her family and friends. To her family she was a wise matriarch, supportive, caring, and always proud of all that they accomplished. To her friends, she was a sister, an integral part of every occasion to be together, and an inspiration in all their activities. Above all, Marilyn’s character was marked by generosity of time, resources, and spirit. She was caretaker for two generations of her family, and she counted it all joy. With her life’s work done, last Saturday evening, she gently crossed the chilly Jordan hand in hand with the Author of her faith. And so shall she ever be with the Lord.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Jasper and Mary O’Dare Reid; her sister, Carolyn Reid Bass; and her twin brothers, Bobby and Tommy. She is survived by six nieces and nephews—Cerae Reid Cooper, Kim Reid Woods, Shelly Reid Dunnavant, Tonya Reid, Jason Reid, and Scott Bass. She also leaves behind several grandnieces and grandnephews, cousins, and many dear friends. She will be sorely missed.

The family will receive visitors at Kilgore Funeral Home, Tullahoma from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. on Friday, April 4. A celebration of Marilyn’s life will commence at 1 p.m. in the funeral chapel, followed by a procession for internment at the New Mt. Hermon Cemetery near Lynchburg. Following the graveside, a reception will be held at the Tullahoma Woman’s Club meeting hall at 709 Wilson Avenue, Tullahoma for all those who wish to attend.  All are welcome. Please join us in a last toast to Marilyn.

Kilgore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
