John Riley Riddle Jr. Obituary
John Riley Riddle Jr., affectionately known as “Johnny” to his friends and family, passed away at Vanderbilt Tullahoma Harton Hospital in Tullahoma at the age of 87.
Johnny was born in Franklin County, on May 23, 1938, to the late John Riley Sr. and Susie Arvella Reavis Riddle. Johnny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Tankersley Riddle of 60 years, and siblings James, Leon “Buddy”, Catherine, Ralph, Joe C. Riddle, and treasured companion of 17 years and pet, Peanut. He is survived by his brother, Bill (Patty) Riddle, and sisters-in-law Evelene, Edith, and Diane Riddle, Georgia Tankersley, and Sandy (George) Martin; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Johnny was a man of many talents. His hands were skilled in the art of carpentry and cabinet making, trades that not only showcased his craftsmanship, but allowed him to use his talents to serve others. Johnny was a proud veteran of the United States National Guards and the Moore County Volunteer Fire Department. Johnny was a loving husband and family man, dedicating himself to the well-being and happiness of his loved ones. His presence was a staple every morning at Hardees, where he shared laughter and camaraderie with friends who will deeply miss his jovial conversations and kind-hearted jests.
The Riddle family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hardee’s, Moore County EMS and Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital for their compassionate care during Johnny’s final days. His passing was peaceful, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
Visitation for Mr. Riddle will be held on Wednesday, May 28 from 5-8 p.m. at Kilgore Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place Thursday, May 29 at 11 a.m. in the Kilgore Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Marty Nutter and Mark Neal officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, the family asks that donations in Johnny’s memory be made to the Metro Moore County Volunteer Fire Dept – P.O. Box 704, Lynchburg, TN 37352.
