Gerald M. Vibbert Obituary
Gerald M. Vibbert, 86, of Athens passed away peacefully in his home on May 25, 2025.
Gerald was born in Tullahoma and was a graduate of Tullahoma High School, and proceeded to attend Sewanee, The University of South. While at Sewanee, he played football and was later inducted to the Athletics Hall of Fame. He was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University. Gerald served in the Army National Guard for a number of years then worked for Equifax for more than thirty years. He went on to work as an insurance adjuster until his retirement. Following retirement, he worked as a substitute teacher at McMinn County High School and part time at Ingles. In addition, Gerald enjoyed spending time fishing on the lake. Above all, Gerald, more affectionately known as “Popi”, loved spending time with his family; whether that be somewhere on the water, sharing laughs over a meal, or on vacations at the beach. He never failed to share a smile with others, spread kindness, and share the love of Christ. Gerald was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Gerald is survived by his loving family, Holland, his wife of 63 years. Three children, Leigh (Bob), Leslie (Jeff), and Mitch; eight grandchildren, Bailey, Melissa (Rich), Kenneth (Rachel), Aaron (Morgan), Ansley, Hannah (Jordan), Abbie (Hunter), and Aiden. As well as five great-grandchildren, Anna-Grace, Rory, Jackson, Hixson, and August.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you remember Gerald by loving the unloved, forgiving the unforgiven, and by offering unconditional love to the broken in need of healing.
A private ceremony will be held at a later date.
