Donald Earl Embry Obituary

Donald Earl Embry, passed into his reward on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025 at Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Tullahoma.

Donald was born Dec. 17, 1935 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Earl Guthrie Embry and Kathryn (Purkheiser) Embry. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 64 years, Shirley Mae (Critchlow) Embry, and grandson, Gregory Andrew Embry.

He is survived by his children, Donald (Colleen) Embry, Jr. of Shelbyville, Susan (Brian) Ingels of Edinburgh, Indiana and Dave (Tracey) Embry of Midlothian, Virginia. Also, his grandchildren, Kirk (Kayla) Embry, Christopher Ingels, Kelly Ingels, William (Gabrielle) Embry, and John (Kylie) Embry, and great-grandchildren, Emma Embry, Scarlett Embry, Luke Embry, Emery Ingels, and Nora Embry.

Donald received his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Butler University and earned his Doctorate Degree at Ball State University. He began his reaching career in Indianapolis, Indiana and served as a Superintendent of Schools in districts in Indiana. He was a longtime Superintendent of Tullahoma City Schools and retired as Professor Emeritus at Middle Tennessee State University. He was a member of Cedar Lane church of Christ.

Visitation was held at Kilgore Funeral Home Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025 with funeral immediately following with Gary Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank Morning Pointe and Dr. Steven Bills for their care of our father. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Tullahoma Educational Foundation.
