Tullahoma wrestling’s success in the preseason ignites expectations for the regular season

GRAY DEYOSports Writer

The Tullahoma High School wrestling regular season is about to go into full force. They closed out their last two preseason events in strong form on Nov. 8 and Nov. 15.

On Nov. 8, the Tullahoma wrestling hosted the Tullahoma Preseason tournament. They had great showings from several of their wrestlers, who went on to win their matches. This included CJ Weaver for the Tullahoma Wildcats in the 107-115 lbs weight class. He made a strong impression on what he can provide the Tullahoma Wildcats this season. He won all three of his matches at this event, one by a pin and two by majority decision–16-2 and 9-0. Noah Gerard, also at the event, won all three of his matches for Tullahoma, two by pins and one by majority decision. With some prominent seniors departing the program last year, the performances of Weaver and Gerard are super encouraging for the future of the program, as they are both freshmen. Neyland Dalton who is also a freshman won all three of his matches at event, and winning all by pins.

Along with some great outings from the first year Wildcats, a couple of sophomores also stacked impressive matches together at the event. Second-year Wildcats Knox Grimes and Maeson Abramson won all of their matches at the event. Grimes won all three of his matches by pin, and so did Abramson.

The girls’ THS team was also in action at this event. They had a couple of wrestlers get some wins—Kacey Barecky and Emma Calcagno. Both of the Lady Wildcats won one of their two matches, winning by decision.

Following the Tullahoma hosted preseason event the, Wildcat wrestling team did well at Blackman High School on Nov.15 for the Blackman Earlybird tournament. There, they won around two-thirds of their matches.

Both THS wrestling teams will look to carry this momentum into their first regular-season events of the year, starting this week. They will travel to Lebanon High School on Nov. 18 for a dual match, and will have their first home match on Nov. 20, where they will take on Spring Hill and Marshall County High School.
