City makes call for TN250 Committee
KYLE MURPHYStaff Writer
The city of Tullahoma is making the call to citizens who want to take part in assisting the city in celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States.
Back in August, Aldermen Kurt Glick stated to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen that the city should get started on planning its own local or regional celebration by suggesting a resolution regarding the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and that the mayor appoint a committee of citizens to help plan out activities.
“Tullahoma had some key things it played a part of in the history of the United States,” Glick said, “one being the Civil War, then World War II and three being the Cold War and space race.”
The board would discuss the topic more during a study session, which included forming a citizen’s committee. The Tullahoma chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution would offer their assistance with the 250th celebration, noting that many revolutionary patriots have been laid to rest in Tullahoma.
Now, city officials are making the call to citizens to be part of an advisory committee, which will guide Tullahoma’s efforts and possible events in celebrating the nation’s 250th birthday.
Anyone interested in serving in the committee are encouraged to attend an informational meeting at Tullahoma City on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 4:45 p.m. All interested persons/organizations are invited to attend the meeting.
