Joint drug operation takes out major meth trafficker

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office, in cooperation with the McMinnville Police Department and the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office, revealed the arrest of Robert (Bobby) Alexander Russell, 38, of Smyrna. Russell, a convicted felon with a prior drug conviction out of Cannon County, is believed to be one of the largest suppliers of methamphetamine in Warren and surrounding counties.

Russell was taken into custody in the early morning hours of September 6, 2025, and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, (453 Grams) with Intent to deliver and driving while in possession of methamphetamine

Narcotics investigators with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the McMinnville Police Department, began an extensive investigation approximately two months ago into Russell, after learning that he has been transporting massive quantities of methamphetamine — estimated at two to three pounds per trip, multiple times per week — from Smyrna into Warren and surrounding counties for more than a year.

“The arrest of Mr. Russell represents a major victory in our fight against illegal drugs,” said Warren County Sheriff Jackie Matheny Jr. “He was a key supplier of methamphetamine in our community, flooding Warren County with dangerous, life-destroying narcotics. Removing him from our streets is a critical step in protecting our citizens and sending a clear message to other drug traffickers that they will not be allowed to operate here. This arrest adds to the growing list of drug dealers who have been taken off our streets in recent months. Chief Mosely and I are proud to support our officers and their relentless efforts, and we continue to encourage anyone with information about illegal drug activity to contact our office. Together, we can and will make Warren County a safer place to live.”

Russell is currently being held at the Warren County Jail on a total bond of $150,000.
