NHC moves ahead with $19M expansion

National Healthcare Corporation (NHC) has announced plans for a $19 million expansion of their senior living campus on Cedar Lane. The new facility is designed to meet the growing need for quality senior living and senior healthcare in the region.
The new development will feature 56 assisted living studios and one-bedroom apartments, along with 23 memory care private studios, creating a vibrant and supportive community for older adults. The new expansion will be a freestanding assisted living and memory care community.
The new facility is located adjacent to their current facility at 1321 Cedar Lane.
The project is scheduled to open in early 2027 and is expected to generate more than 50 new jobs.
Amenities will include a beautifully-landscaped courtyard, spacious covered porch, wellness room, private dining room and campus-wide Wi-Fi to keep residents and families connected.
“This expansion reflects our commitment to Tullahoma and the surrounding communities,” said Penn Moore, Administrator of NHC Tullahoma. “We are excited to offer new assisted living and memory care options that provide comfort, support and opportunities for seniors to thrive close to home.”
The existing NHC facility, which opened in 2013, is a 99-bed, post-acute health care center offering 24/7 skilled nursing care, short-term rehab, long-term care and therapy services.
Stephen Bills, MD, a leading Tullahoma physician, echoed those sentiments, “Citizens of Tullahoma are aging and for a number of good reasons, we have become a destination for retired couples. With aging comes the need for more assisted care options, as well as more specialized care for those with severe memory and cognitive deficits. NHC offers specialized care in both.”
Fran Gray, South Central Tennessee coordinator for the Alzheimer’s Association, said, “Over 800 families in Coffee County are affected by some form of dementia. The different forms of dementia are the fifth leading cause of death in the U.S. The disease is affecting younger and younger people. The NHC announcement is good news for Tullahoma, as the needs for memory care continue to increase.. We have wonderful facilities for memory care in Tullahoma and there is always a waiting list.”
