Sunrise Rotary awards new teacher funds

Tullahoma Sunrise Rotary partners with East Lincoln Elementary School for Continuing Educational Opportunities (CEO). Sunrise Rotary has provided a mini library, or book box, for the school. The club keeps it stocked with books that students may take out and keep if they wish. The club also donates two bicycles with helmets per year, around Christmas or at the end of the school year.
This year the club voted to donate $250.00 to each new teacher at the school to help the teachers set up their classrooms. Many teachers spend their own money to buy supplies for their classes, and the club felt that a new teacher would have a greater need than established teachers.
This year East Lincoln Elementary had only one new teacher, Laken Barnes. Laken and East Lincoln Principal Phonda Stevens were invited to the July 23 meeting for the presentation. Laken is excited to start the school year, and Sunrise Rotary wishes her great success.
Sunrise Rotary Club challenges other CEO partners to support new teachers as well. Teachers are instrumental to children’s development and deserve our support.
