Alfred Joseph Oettinger Obituary

Alfred Joseph Oettinger passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. He was always busy helping neighbors and friends. He helped repair the church roof and did repairs at Polly’s house. He loved living and fishing on the Duck River. He was always up for a day at the lake to fish or lollygag! Lake trips also included a bag lunch and a beer. He had the Duck River in the backyard that the grandchildren liked to play and splash around in or just watch the fish swim by. One of the family’s enjoyable times with him was a day floating down the river and stopping to eat sandwiches, drink ouzo, and converse. All these activities were in between gardening and hunting. He met and made many new friends.

He will be sorely missed. He leaves behind two children: Linda Oettinger Morris of Chattanooga, and Michael Oettinger of McMinnville; and three grandchildren: Michael Oettinger in Murfreesboro; Sam Morris in Bluffton, SC; Jamey Morris in Huntsville, AL; and two great grandchildren Lucy and Berean Oettinger of Murfreesboro. When they visited him in his new home, they screamed with delight at the creek in the backyard. They had such fun splashing and throwing rocks.

Al’s service will be on May 21 at Normandy Presbyterian Church, 108 Center St., Normandy with a visitation at 9 a.m. and service at 10 a.m. There will be refreshments after the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family encourages contributions in Al’s memory to Normandy Presbyterian Church.

Tullahoma Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
