Learning to Fly
K
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31. How many of you are in the midst of a wait?
I know it is hard in that place and sometimes you grow weary, but the wait can be the greatest source of strength. We took our little ones to the park over the weekend and as we sat watching them play a sweet baby bird perched right beside me on the fence. We looked at each other in wonder and for a split second I thought maybe it was in distress. All of a sudden, a beautiful mama red bird swooped down as though she was calling for her little one. The baby took a wobbly leap and flew into the air where he soon hit the ground again. In amazement I continued watching only to realize I was witnessing the most beautiful exchange between a mother and baby as it was learning to fly for the first time. The baby had perched upon that fence to take a breath and as soon as it saw its mother it regained strength and tried to fly once more. We weren’t able to stay long enough to see that little one fully soar, but I know without a doubt it did. How many of you are seeking that strength from so many things only to fall short?
As the verse above states, they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength. Friend, God is strength. Your healing, breakthrough, success and joy will never come from the trenches of this earth – look up to the One who is continuously calling you to fly. Just as that mama bird was instructing her young through the process, God is doing the same for you. How does He give us instruction? We learn how to run and not grow weary and walk and not faint by reading the Word of God. The Bible is not just a historical reference we study, it is a living and breathing guide to every situation you may face in this lifetime. I know the wait can be tiresome, but I encourage you to spread your wings this week and leap into the depths of those red letters – Jesus’ words.
Cardinals play a significant role in my life so when I see one I can feel the presence of someone I love in Heaven, but maybe this sweet sighting was just for you. God sees you, He hears you and He too is waiting for you to follow His lead. I pray you have a wonderful week, and if you happen to see a red bird may you be reminded of the depths of His love and faithfulness.
“He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust: His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” Psalm 91:4
