Wildcats baseball is on a 16-game win streak

The Wildcats baseball team picked up four wins from April 1-5, beating Coffee County, Lawrence County, and Giles County High School twice. The Wildcats also had a player named the Nashville area boys athlete of the week.

Andrew Fulmer named Nashville area boys athlete of the week

Fulmer was recognized for his strong play the week prior and especially for his performance against Warren County on March 28.

Fulmer in the contest went 2-3 hitting including a home run in the 8-0 win. He also helped pitch, aiding Ben Quick’s four-inning one-hit performance, by following it with pitching a hitless last inning of the game that included two strikeouts.

Fulmer is just one example of the long list of athletes on the Tullahoma roster who can pitch and hit at a high level, which has helped them to a long win streak after a 0-6 start to the year.

Giles County game one

After scoring at least eight runs in their previous four games, the Wildcats fought in a defensive battle against Giles County on April. 1, winning 2-1.

Baylen Tuten was on the mound for Tullahoma. He pitched six and two-thirds innings and was lockdown in his outing, just as he has been all year. In his outing he only allowed one run which came in the seventh inning, he also only allowed two hits, and he had 13 strikeouts in the game.

The Wildcats scored one run in the first inning, and with Giles County scoring in the seventh, the score between the two squads was knotted at 1-1 going into the bottom of the seventh.

Andrew Zebick was able to get on base to open up the bottom frame. Sam Bobo stepped up next for the Wildcats and unfortunately grounded out bringing Trevor Cole to the plate. Cole fell behind in his at-bat fast, fighting off two foul balls. Extra innings seemed to be on the horizon, as it seemed Cole was making his way to being Giles County’s sixth strikeout of the game. Cole however, attacked the next pitch in his plate appearance and sent a line drive ball in play to right field.  Zebick raced around the bases and was able to cross home plate to give the Wildcats a walk-off win off of Cole’s blistering single.

Giles County game two

In the second game between the two squads, Tullahoma’s offense fired back up and grabbed an 11-3 win.

The Wildcats did most of their damage in the last three innings of the game, scoring seven of their 11 runs over the span.

During this stretch Fulmer, Phillip Lemon, JD Schmisseur, and Parke Fulks all hit RBIs. Fulmer in the three innings had a homer and a triple. He finished as the game’s hit leader with four hits.

Coffee County

On April. 4 Tullahoma took on their school rival Coffee County and won 14-0.

Grayson Waller pitched six shutout innings for Tullahoma, striking out six batters and allowing just three hits.

Tullahoma had 13 hits on the day with three of their players going for three knocks—Hunter Hogan, Tuten, and Zebick. Schmisseur led the Wildcats in RBIs in the game with three.

Tullahoma put this game away early against the Red Raiders scoring seven unanswered runs in the first three innings of the game.

Lawrence County

In Tullahoma’s lone game so far for this week, they were able to fend off and beat Lawrence County 6-1.

It was a low-scoring game for much of the contest with the Wildcats scoring four of their runs in the final inning of the game. They held a 2-0 lead after the third inning and were able to maintain a lead throughout the rest of the game thanks to the solid pitching they received from Tuten.

Tuten pitched the first six innings of the game. He allowed one run, four hits, and had seven strikeouts. Quick closed out the game in the seventh and allowed no hits and had one strikeout.

The scoring in the seventh inning for Tullahoma, which separated them from Lawrence, got started with back-to-back doubles from Hogan and Tuten. Fulmer and Zebick followed the two strong at-bats with RBIs, helping separate Tullahoma from Lawrence in the game.

The Wildcats will play Lawrence County again in their next game on April. 8, as they look to extend their 16-game win streak to 17.
