It’s time to get on the soap box as the 25th annual Tullahoma Soap Box Derby is set to return to downtown this May and the deadline to sign-up ends this Friday.

According to the Tullahoma Parks and Recreation Department, the soap box derby opened up registration this past Monday, April 7, and will continue to have sign-ups until this Friday, April 11. To register participates are asked to bring a completed registration form, a birth certificate and their T-Shirt size. The race entry fee is $50. Anyone interested can register at either D.W. Wilson Community Center, located at 501 N. Collins St., or C.D. Stamps Community Center, located at 810 S. Jackson St.

“This year the race will feature drivers in the Stock Division, Super Stock Division, and Super Kids Division,” Parks and rec officials said. “Boys and girls between the ages of seven and seventeen are revved up to compete for a berth in the 87th First Energy All American Soap Box Derby World Championship held at Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio on July 19, 2025.”

The Stock Car Division is for beginning racers between the ages of 7 to 13. Stock cars can accommodate a racer up to approximately 5-foot-3-inches tall and 125 pounds. The Super Stock Car Division is designed for racers between 9 and 18 years old. The cars can accommodate racers up to approximately six feet tall and 150 pounds.

From April 29 through May 1, drivers and their crews will attend car building clinics, which will include weigh-ins, at C.D. Stamps from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Drivers are expected to build their own cars from a kit, with advice and assistance from sponsors, parents, and volunteers.

Race day will take place on Saturday, May 3, at 7 a.m., where a large portion of West Lincoln Street will be closed for the day. The road will be closed until the race is finished.

“The race is free for spectators, come cheer on your favorite driver on Derby Day,” Parks and rec officials said.
