Wreaths Across America returns to Maplewood Cemetery

BRADY FLANIGANStaff Writer

This Saturday, Dec. 14, Tullahoma will join communities nationwide in honoring veterans through Wreaths Across America. The event, dedicated to remembering and honoring those who served, will take place at 11 a.m. at Maplewood Cemetery, which holds the city’s largest number of veterans’ graves, some dating back to the Civil War.

The ceremony will begin with keynote speakers placing standing wreaths, each representing a branch of the armed forces as well as POW/MIA. Volunteers will then lay wreaths at individual graves throughout the cemetery, which have been geotagged in advance for efficiency.

The event is organized by Girl Scout Troop 2163, led by Troop Leader Greg Gressel. Donations will go toward the purchase of additional wreaths, with every dollar matched by the organization. Troop 2163 requests donations be made out to Wreaths Across America with “Maplewood” in the memo. Contributions can be given directly to Greg Gressel or dropped off at the main office of South Jackson Performing Arts Center. This ensures the funds will go to the Coffee County chapter and be matched by the national organization.
