Robert Dwayne Mitchell Obituary

Of Shelbyville passed away on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro. He was born on Dec. 13, 1948, in Waverly, to his parents, Robert Vernus and Hattie Alene Runions Mitchell. Robert dedicated over 30 years of his life to serving our country in the Army and the Tennessee Army National Guard. He served during the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. He was a member of the Field Artillery Association, Tennessee Army National Guard Enlisted Association, and the American Legion Association. In Robert’s free time, he loved to spend time on his motorcycle.

Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 10 in the Chapel of Humphreys County Funeral Home with Dan Reed officiating. Interment followed at Ebenezer Cemetery in New Johnsonville.

Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Baker Mitchell; sons, Bob (Lori) Mitchell and Bryan (Heather) Mitchell; brothers, Jeff Mitchell and Terry Mitchell; and eight grandchildren, Hannah Mitchell, Alex Mitchell, Haley Mitchell, Bobby Mitchell, Jack Mitchell, Mary Beth Mitchell, Morganne Mitchell, and Caitlin Qualls. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Vernus and Hattie Alene Runions Mitchell; son, Harold James “Jimmy” Mitchell; stepdaughter, Tina Qualls and sisters, Tanya Sue Bailey and Kendra Joy Bisset.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the American Legion Tullahoma Chapter in memory of Mr. Mitchell.

Humphreys County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
