Boys’ Basketball is back on track

The boys after dropping their home opener against Oakland got right back on track with two wins over the weekend. They beat Battle Creek 69-16 and Macon County 68-37.

“We just didn’t make shots, it’s just one of those things where we will do it next time and be like, oh it’s so easy,” head coach of Tullahoma Jason Welch said following their opening season loss to Oakland.

They certainly made their shots over the weekend and their star senior forward, Xavier Ferrell, was a huge contributor in the scoring department.

The Wildcats’ offense clicked in both of their games. Ferrell, scored 41 points over the two games, scoring 17 against the Bears and 24 against the Tigers. Ferrell has been the leading scorer in all three of Tullahoma’s games so far, but what makes them such a dangerous group, is the amount of people they have that can be effective. In the two-game set, Tullahoma had 10 players score in each game. Sam Bobo and Khani Johnson finished as the second and third leading scorers behind Ferrell against Battle Creek, with Bobo finishing with 11 and Johnson finishing with 10. Junior Lukas Price was the second-leading scorer against the Tigers, lacing in nine points.

Price has been a great fit in the offense that Wildcats’ head coach Welch runs. Their offense takes some elements out of the Belmont men’s basketball team’s offense. It requires the ball to constantly be in motion and the players to be in continuous motion. Price, like many of his teammates, can step off the bench and fit the flow that Welch is looking for on offense. He snaps the ball to his teammates to keep the offense moving, and he gets a foot into the paint with his handles to provide space for his shooters outside of the arc.

“If we shoot the ball well and play like we can, we really should go out and score 75 a night,” said Coach Welch in a preseason interview regarding his team’s ability on the offensive end.

Price and his teammates will only get better as the season progresses, as they all continue to learn and become more comfortable with Welch’s complicated and intelligent-styled offense.
