Tullahoma’s season ended in Columbia

The Tullahoma High School volleyball team went to Columbia for the first game in the district tournament and lost 16-25, 12-25, 20-25.

The loss ended the Lady ‘Cats season with an 11-15 overall record and a 6-8 district split. They went 6-4 at home, 4-7 in true road matches and 1-4 in neutral site matches. The team’s longest win streak was four matches from Sep. 10 to Sep. 19.

In the final match, Isabella Lidstrom led the team with 10 kills. Emily Bell had four, Gabriella DaCosta had two, while Gabbi Gardner, Adalyn Nelson and Avanley Metcalf had one. Olivia Spencer had the most aces on the team with two, Jada Spry and Maggie Lynch had one. The team had four total blocks, Lidstrom had the only solo block. Bell had three assists, Spry had a pair and Nelson had one. Lidstrom and DaCosta tied for the team lead with seven digs. Spry and Lynch were second with six. Then Spencer with four, Nelson and Genia Stephens with two, and Metcalf had one. Spry had all of the team’s 17 assists.

On the season Lidstrom led the team with 312 kills, the second most was Nelson with 124. Bell was the only other Wildcat with over 100 at 113. Spencer led the way in aces with 62. Spry was close behind with 56, then Lidstrom at 38, while Lynch and Taylor Brinkley both had 13. Lidtsrom led the team in solo blocks with 14. Bell was next with 9. Bell also led in block assists with 25. Nelson was second with 19, Lidstrom and Metcalf both had 11. Spencer topped the team’s dig statistic with 367. Spry was next on the board with 236, then Lidstrom with 195, DaCosta 124, Lynch with 121, Aubrey North with 113 and Nelson with 102. Spry led Tullahoma in assists with more than triple the second player’s number at 485. Brinkley was next at 105, then Spencer with 74, North with 13, Nelson with 12 and Lidstrom with 10.

The Lady Wildcats improved their record by a match from last season when they went 10-16 with a 5-9 district split. They won 37 sets and lost 46 last year, while winning 43 this year and only losing 42. The ‘Cats averaged almost 10 kills a set and nine assists a set. Although the team had 197 serving errors, they had 230 total aces for nearly 3 per set. They also had a higher serving percentage than the national average with 88.9 percent.
