Tullahoma High School girls’ soccer team lost against an undefeated Franklin County squad this week 3-1.

The Lady Wildcats got a strong performance from goalkeeper Claire Fogarty. She made three saves in the first four minutes of action. The first real chance Tullahoma had was in the seventh minute, but the pass to the middle was not connected. Franklin County scored the first goal with 32:35 on the clock in the first half. They played a through ball and the Rebel player beat Fogarty to the ball so no one was in net to stop the shot. The Lady Wildcats then put a flurry of shots toward the net, taking the next three shots after the goal, but were unable to tie the contest. McLayne Bobo, Tullahoma’s leading scorer from last season, was injured early in the half and left the game. Fogarty remained solid for the rest of the half, picking up more saves to keep Tullahoma in the match. The Lady ‘Cats offense had some more chances in the first half, but they were unable to put the ball into the net.

Tullahoma had the first chance in the second half when Harper McShea put the ball into the box for Catelynn Ballard. The chance did not result in a goal. The Lady Rebels countered with their own attack that resulted in a shot that loudly hit the crossbar. The score changed with 23:12 left when Franklin County added an insurance goal. The score was similar to the first goal with the offensive player beating Fogarty to the ball in the box and then putting it in. Tullahoma had multiple corner kicks over the next ten minutes of game time but still haven’t changed the zero on the scoreboard. Brindley Duncan created a great chance with a cross into the box, but the Franklin County keeper stopped the opportunity. With 11:35 left, Faith Vincent ended the shutout on a laser from outside the box. She beat the keeper to the far top corner to make it 2-1. With less than three minutes left the Lady Rebels ended any hope of the comeback with one last goal. Fogarty got her hand on it but was unable to get it to go over the net.

The Lady ‘Cats will be looking to get back into the win column on Monday when they host Marshall County. The match is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. Prior to the contest the team will be having a moment of silence for 9/11 and recognize the Military and First Responders.
