Tullahoma middle school track season recap

Tullahoma City Schools saw their middle school athletes bring back five medals from the State Championship track meet. 

West Middle had three athletes medal; Zion Jeffery, Landin Johnson and Madison McCarl, while East Middle had Katie Grace Nichols and Emily Bell claim medals.

East Middle 

The East Tullahoma Middle School track team brought medals back in the 800 meter run with Katie Grace Nichols winning the event and in the 400 meter where Emily Bell placed fourth.

Nichols ran the 800 with a time of2:25.98 and Bell finished the 400 in 1:01.09.

The Panthers also had a strong showing at the CTC Championship, winning nine different events. Brady Scott won the high jump with a height of 5-4. The 4×100 and 4×400 boys’ relay teams both won. The 4×100 team finished in 51.53 and the 4×400 had a time of 4:21.08. Bryton Toombs won the 800 finishing in 2:37.20. Anabelle Smith won the girls’ discus throw with a distance of 68-7. The girls’ 4×400 relay team won with a time of 4:43.41. Nichols won the 1600 and 800. She had a time of 5:52.67 in the 1600 and 2:39.70 in the 800. Bell won the 400 with a time of 1:04.69.

The Panthers set three school records, the 400 meter, 1600 meter and shot put. Kobe Taylor set the 400 record with a time of 59.79 at the TMSAA Class A Section 3 sectional. Landon Price set the 1600 record at the CTC Championship with a time of 5:36.12. Grayson Harden set the shot put record with a distance of 33-3 at the TMSSA Class A Section 3 Area 11 Championship. The Lady Panthers set two school records, the 400 and discus throw. Bell set a new school record in the 400 at the TMSAA State Championship meet with a time of 1:01.99.  Smith set the discus record at the CTC Championship with a throw of 68-7.  

West Middle 

The West Tullahoma Middle School track team medaled in three events at the State Championship; Zion Jeffery in the long jump,  Landin Johnson in the discus throw and Madison McCarl in shot put.

Jeffery finished runner-up with a distance of 19-05.75. Johnson was the fourth place finisher in the discus throw with a distance of 113-02. McCarl added a sixth place finish for her shot put distance of 33-02.50.

Jeffery and Johnson also won events at the CTC Championships. Jeffery took first in the 100 meter dash and the long jump. He finished the 100 in 12.37 and had a distance of 18-2.5 in the long jump. Johnson won the discus throw with a distance of 123-9. The Bobcats also had 10 other top three place finishes. Sophie Call was second in the 800 with a time of 2:52.05 and the 1600 with a finish of 6:13.79. The 4×100 and 4×200 girls’ relay teams finished third. The 4×100 had a time of 58.26 and the 4×200 with a finish of 2:03.88. The 4×400 relay were the runners up with a time of 4:50.23. McCarl was the runner up in both the discus throw and shot put. She had a distance of 63-2 in discus and 32-4 in shot put. Johnson placed second in the 400 with a time of 59.82. Jake Raby was the runner up in the 800 at 2:37.41. Johnson was third in the high jump with a height of 5-0.

The Lady Bobcats set three school records this season, the 800 meter, 1600 meter and the shot put. Call set the record for the 800 and 1600. The 800 record was set at 2:50.29 in the TMSAA Class A Section 3 sectional and the 1600 in the CTC Championship at 6:13.79. McCarl set the shot put record at the TMSAA sectional with a distance of 33-8.5. The Bobcats also set three school records, the 100, long jump and discus throw. Jeffery set the record in the 100 at the TMSAA sectional with a time of 12.06 and the long jump with a distance of 20-2.5. Johnson set the discus record at the CTC Championship with a distance of 123-9.
