Agnes Adams Obituary

Agnes Adams, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and great-aunt, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024 at the age of 92.

Agnes was born on Nov. 12, 1931 to the late Thomas Vester Whittenburg and Mary Rector Whittenburg of Pickett County. She moved to Tullahoma in 1952 upon graduating from Tennessee Technological University and marrying Joe D. Massey. She held several jobs during her years in Tullahoma, including working in the office at Motlow State Community College, and as a legal secretary for her second husband, Hoyte E. Adams, until their retirement. Mrs. Adams was also a member of First Methodist Church in Tullahoma. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Joe D. Massey and Hoyte E. Adams; and one son, Kenneth Wayne Massey. Mrs. Adams is survived by her daughter, Carol Massey Stiers (Rick); two grandchildren, Laura Stiers and Alexander Stiers; one sister Wanda Whittenburg McCrary; to nieces, Lisa Benson and Denise Benson Wall (Todd); and one great-niece Taylor Wall.

Visitation for Mrs. Adams will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024 from noon – 2 p.m. at Kilgore Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow in the Kilgore Funeral Home chapel at 2 p.m. with Rev. Rickey Wade and Kris Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Agnes’ memory be made to either the American Heart Association, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The family would like to thank all the members of the community that came together to enable Agnes to continue to live at her beloved home of 60 years until her death. We would also like to thank the members of the medical community that took care if her until her passing.
