Young entrepreneur acquires Edison Vacuum

In April, twenty year old entrepreneur Ben Reed purchased Edison Vacuum, his fourth business. His entrepreneurial spree started even prior to attending Tullahoma High School.
“As a young teen I went door-todoor offering lawn care with a free mower that I fixed. I then started my own power washing service which I ran for three years. After high school graduation in 2024, I attended Motlow State working towards a business degree and studied to earn my Tennessee Real Estate license. I became a REALTOR in December of 2025,” said Reed.
Reed was also active while attending Tullahoma schools. In elementary and middle school, Reed played Little League baseball and played on the soccer, tennis and golf teams. In high school Reed competed on the tennis team and played tuba in the THS band.
A lunch meeting this past April proved pivotal in acquiring Edison Vacuum. “While at Motlow State, I worked for Trent Poteat, the owner of Edison Vacuum. He was also a REALTOR. As our real estate business continued to grow, Trent decided it was time to close the vacuum store. After heading in that direction and receiving feedback from our customers to remain open, a conversation over lunch led to my acquisition of the store as its new owner.”
Edison Vacuum carries the top of the line SEBO, Electrolux, Riccar and many other vacuum brands that cover all price points. They also offer cordless vacs and Riccar Smart Mops. Reed also carries refurbished vacuums, air purifiers, parts, bags and filters as well as repair and service any and all vacuums. The store carries vacuums for residential, commercial and churches big and small.
“If you need a vacuum, we can help,” offers Reed.
Since acquiring the business, Reed has expanded his product line. “We’ve added a Home Scents Collection that can bring the signature fragrance of 5 Star Hotels, such as the Ritz Carlton, into your home or business. The heatless, waterless technology is safe for pets and children and are among the top sellers in our store.”
Reed is grounded in his beliefs and is active in serving in Rutledge Falls Baptist Church. When asked about the best advice he has ever received, Reed was quick with “Always be honest and faithful and God will provide.”
Since acquiring the store, Reed is enjoying being a small business owner. “I enjoy meeting new people and serving our community as well as being my own boss. I never know who is going to walk in the door. Come in and say ‘hi’. I’ll be here to welcome you.”
Edison Vacuum is located at 1960 North Washington Street (behind Zaxby’s) and is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 5pm.
