The Coffee County Rescue Squad (CCRS) was called in to provide firefighter rehabilitation for the firefighters working a structure fire over the weekend.

According to the rescue squad, a crew was dispatched on Saturday, Aug. 8, around 9:30 a.m. to a structure/garage fire to provide Firefighter Rehabilitation (Rehab) for the firefighters working the scene, which included North Coffee Volunteer Fire, New Union VFD, Hillsboro VFD, Summitville VFD and the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department.

“With the heat and physically demanding conditions firefighters face while working a structure fire, CCRS members provided a designated rehabilitation area where personnel could take a break from operations, cool down, rest, and rehydrate before returning to their duties,” rescue squad officials said. “Unfortunately, the garage and its contents were a total loss, and the main residence also sustained damage from the intense heat of the fire.”

The rescue squad also shared that there were no injuries reported.

“We extend our appreciation to all of the firefighters and emergency personnel who responded and worked together throughout the incident,” officials said. “These men and women put in tremendous effort under difficult conditions, and CCRS is always honored to be there to support those who are working hard to protect our community.”

The rescued squad also asked everyone to keep the family affected by this fire in your thoughts and prayers as they begin dealing with the loss and damage caused by the fire.

“While belongings and property can be replaced, we are especially grateful that everyone was safe,” officials said. “To all of the agencies, communications center and responders who answered the call today — thank you for your service, dedication, and teamwork.”
