Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night stumbling around in the dark just to find your way to your kitchen for a drink of water? You know the design of your home; you know the exact layout and furniture arrangement yet in the darkness of the night it all seems so strange and discombobulating. This is exactly what can happen in our daily walk with Christ as well. When life is full of light, open doors and new opportunities it is easy to walk in faith, talk with God, spend time in the Word and encourage others; however, when that veil of darkness comes, we seem to lose our sight. We forget that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever more” as written in Hebrews 13:8.

The world around us may become dark and discombobulating, but the One who holds our hand through the darkness never changes. He is our eyes when we cannot see still directing our footsteps to that big glass of living water. I often wonder why the darkness causes us to be so afraid as children and even into adulthood- we all know that one flip of a switch and darkness can be completely erased. When we are in a dark place mentally, we must keep in mind that light will always drive out the darkness with just a flip of a mindset. I have found sometimes it is easier to stay in that dark place than to put in the work to change and overcome the enemy, but today I will share with you three ways to get you started in walking by faith.

Take the first step. Just like when you stumble around your house in the middle of the night to get a glass of water, you must just put one foot in front of the other. You don’t even have to know exactly what the pathway holds (dirty laundry, your kid’s toys, the dog) you just have to move and trust that the steps you are taking will lead you where you need to go.

Travel towards your destination.

Where is it that you are wanting to go in life? Do you have a dream you are working towards? Moving in the direction of God’s calling and will over your life is walking in faith. It does not matter that you can’t see how, when, where the financing will come or who will help you – God knows the way!

Journey through the opposition.

The enemy loves to have you alone in the darkness of your mind- that is his playground. Learning to cast down those thoughts through the Word is important in seeing the light God has ahead. I can promise you that nothing you will do in this lifetime for the Kingdom of God will not come without opposition.

I pray this week you are reminded of the light that is available to you if you are only willing to “flip the switch”. Don’t let your emotions of today rob you of what God has for your tomorrow- keep walking through the heartache, despair and darkness. Our Father is right in the midst of your journey giving you all the sight you need to see the glimmer of light ahead!
