Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night stumbling around in the dark just to find your way to your kitchen for a drink of water? You know the design of your home; you know the exact layout and furniture arrangement yet in the darkness of the night it all seems so strange and discombobulating. This is exactly what can happen in our daily walk with Christ as well. When life is full of light, open doors and new opportunities it is easy to walk in faith, talk with God, spend time in the Word and encourage others; however, when that veil of darkness comes, we seem to lose our sight. We forget that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever more” as written in Hebrews 13:8.

Isat down with my computer and a cup of coffee to write this week’s article, but before I started, I asked my four-year old what Mama’s “topic” should be. Of course I was only teasing, but I did want to see what God may place on his little heart. He pondered and pondered, asked me questions and even tried to divert my question to his older sister but eventually he said “Mama, my brain can’t think.”

If there is ever a time in history to be cognizant of those around you and even in your circle, it is now. I believe the enemy is on special assignment to create a hierarchy within society that causes divide, unrest and hurt. I am currently studying the book of Daniel in which King Nebuchadnezzar ordered his court to bring him young Israelite boys so that he could teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians. He would assign them daily amount of food and wine from the king’s table and train them for three years to which they would then enter the king’s service. If you have studied the book of Daniel, you may remember that Daniel and his friends refused the king’s food and instead followed the dietary laws in which God had spoken.

We were honored to host our 6th annual Farm-to-Table event this weekend at The Silos at Promise Manor – below is a snippet of my heart that I was able to share with all in attendance. I was recently asked in an interview why we saw such importance in farm-to-table dinners and agriculture. It didn’t take me long to begin answering because of my deep roots planted in our family’s 300-acre century farm in Lynchburg, but I realized in that moment that living in these sweet small southern farming towns is such a blessing and gift. The young girl on the other end of the phone was not from here yet she wanted to feel the essence of our why. She wanted me to take her on a journey of beauty and grit that she may had possibly never experienced herself. I had to slow down answering her question because I wanted her to not only hear the words but feel what it means to be rooted in farming. Our children are 6th generation on our family farm and in 2019 when I registered our farm with the state, I realized then that it was no mistake that God had placed our family on that land for such a time as this.

What do you have to lose when you knowingly commit a sin after being giving insight to the truth? This may sound like a trick question or even a harsh question to some, but after studying the book of Deuteronomy today God laid it on my heart to examine the text. What do we lose when we choose not to follow the commandments, statutes and judgements put forth by God? The answer is simple, everything. “ Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them, And then the Lord’s wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the Lord giveth you.” Deuteronomy 11:16-17.

As many of you know, my Papa Billy Allen, is known around town as the “Honey Man”. His dedication to preserving honeybees in Moore County and the countless hours he has spent with bees is admirable. As his granddaughter, it has become hard for me to not also want to be involved in the honey production side of agriculture.

I used to believe that abundance was tied to financial wealth, social status or career success, but once I became a stay-athome mom in 2021 I realized abundance was so much more. According to the dictionary, abundance refers to a large quantity, a plentiful supply or a state of having more than enough of something. When you look at your inventory of life, where is there an abundance?
