Phyllis (Phyl) Anne Martin Birdsong

Phyllis (Phyl) Anne Martin Birdsong, age 72, laid to rest on Tuesday, August 26th after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born December 14th, 1953, she was born in Sewanee, Tennessee to the late Halson W. Martin and Mildred J. Martin. Phyl was known for her strong will, kindness, love for all things owl, and an even bigger love for her family.

Phyl attended grade school in Redbank, Tennessee. Her family then moved to Tullahoma, Tennessee in 1969, where she attended Tullahoma High School and graduated in 1972. Phyl spent many years as an administrative assistant at Motlow State Community College. She also worked at Temco, National Pen, Dunhams, before officially retiring at her last job, Bealls in Tullahoma. Outside of work, Phyl loved to read books, paint, and spend time with her family, especially if they were going to Casa Mexicana or Walmart.

Phyl was preceded in death by her parents Halson W. Martin, Mildred J. Martin, and her brother David W. Martin. She is lovingly survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Corrie (Joseph) Martin, Tullahoma, Kelley (Marcus) Sintic, Tullahoma; one brother, Steve (Karla) Martin, Chattanooga, TN; six grandchildren, Orion Smith, Madison Smith, Gracie Martin, Haydon Malone, Brody Sintic, and Alexander Sintic; as well as many other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held at Tullahoma Funeral Home on Sunday, September 6th from 11am – 1pm. A small graveside service will be held after visitation at 2:30 p.m at the Eastern Star Cemetery in Sewanee, Tennessee.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for any donations to be made in Phyl’s name to the Coffee County Lannom Memorial Library in Tullahoma.

Phyl will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her
