The comparison trap we can all so easily become a victim to is very dangerous. “For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10 KJV).

When you continue to compare your journey with the journey of another person you fail to walk in the purpose God called of you. It is important that we all run our own race God has created for us so that we can continue building His Kingdom and sharing His love.

When you compare your life to someone else’s you are limiting yourself! In a world overwhelmed with social media perfection it is easy to fall into the comparison trap; however, that perfection is not always truth. When our business was established, I prayed that God would use my gifts and the gifts of our family to serve others while always remaining community over competition. We know that no matter how successful we may look in the eyes of men, we will not receive our reward if we are not successful in what God has called of us. Often times you only see the open doors and opportunities in the lives of others, but very rarely see the heartache, defeat, tears, battles and suffering that lead to those victories. Your walk may look different than theirs, but it holds just as much purpose if you will continue moving forward.

If you are feeling as though you are currently suffering in this terrible trap here are three ways you can break that bondage today!

Take a social media fast.

We can so often get caught up in the “perfect” lives people live. Take a break and spend time in the Word to ground yourself in the journey you have been called to fulfill.

Stop the gossip.

When someone succeeds that does not mean that you fail. Start supporting your neighbors when a victory comes along – community is built when we start celebrating in the lives of others!

Replace worry with worship.

Honoring God in the midst of our journey even when it is hard will always result in victory. Stop worrying about what tomorrow holds when you already know Who holds tomorrow.

Your talents and gifts are special – never allow your light to dim when another person’s may shine brighter. I pray you know how incredibly special your journey is to the Kingdom of God. You have a chance everyday to live out His plans for YOUR life…get moving!

“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (1 Peter 4:10).
