Telemedicine gives options

Telemedicine allows individuals to meet with a doctor or health care provider by video or phone which can be done from anywhere. Around 80% of office-based physicians in the United States used telemedicine in 2024, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Telemedicine has many benefits including convenience and comfort, no travel costs, better access to specialists, reduced infection risk, and easier chronic care.
If you are thinking about utilizing telemedicine, consider taking these actions. Prior to your appointment, become familiar with the technology you will be using. Visit the website for the telemedicine platform you will be using. Check to see if you need to download any apps if accessing your appointment by a mobile device. Make sure you have enough data to access the virtual platform if you will be using your phone’s cellular data plan. And, close all other programs and apps on your computer or phone.
Prepare for your appointment by locating a quiet place without distractions. Before your appointment, take note of what you want to discuss. Dress comfortably by wearing loose clothing in case you need to show your health care provider something on your body.
Before your appointment ends, summarize your visit. Go over your care plan with your health care provider. Ask questions, and make sure you fully understand all the information, lab tests, and/or medication refills you need.
Telemedicine might be new to you, and it’s normal to have some hesitation when it comes to using it. But, with a little preparation, you might find telemedicine is a valuable, convenient tool to take care of your health.
