Cynthia Moran Vaughn

Cynthia “Cindy” Moran Vaughn, 84, of Atlanta, Georgia, passed away on September 20, 2026, after a short illness caused by West Nile virus.
Cindy was born on December 1, 1941, in Providence, Rhode Island, to Lillian and William Moran. She and her sister, Sandra, spent their early years traveling the country with their parents until the family settled in Tullahoma, Tennessee, when Cindy was about 13. Her father was working there building the wind tunnels at Arnold Engineering Development Center, and the family decided to stay.
After a year at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Cindy married Tullahoma native, Glen E. Burt in June 1961. Following Glen’s graduation from UT, they made their home in Tullahoma, where they raised their two children, Dawn and Kevin, until Glen’s death in 1978.
Cindy later met and married Donald E. Vaughn of Winchester, TN. Don’s career with Rock-Tenn Company took them to Dallas, Texas, where they lived for more than ten years before settling on Amelia Island, Florida. They shared over 35 beautiful years together until Don’s death in 2019.
In early 2020, Cindy moved to Atlanta to be near her daughter and grandson, arriving just in time for the Covid-19 pandemic. Once the world reopened, she found her people at the poker table. She played three or four times a week with a local group, regularly made WKHPRQWKODQGTDUWHUOSODRcVDQGUHLJQHGDVWKH undisputed “Queen” of the tables. She was beloved by the players, bartenders, and servers everywhere the group played, and she even led the charge to bring a twice-weekly game to Neighbor’s Pub, the Virginia- Highland restaurant owned by her grandson’s family.
Cindy lived a full life enjoying time with her family, occasional travel with her daughter, cooking and entertaining for friends, games and events with her grandson and generally was always the life of the party, particularly if there was dancing and champagne involved.
She also loved having pets in her life. Over the years Cindy happily raised three Maltese, Max, Casey, and 6DPDORQJLWKRQVEHORHGGRJHOLODKDQGQDOO Joey, a sweet rescue cat who was her last companion.
