Letters to the Editor
America is still a democracy, barely
POTUS unilaterally joined with Israel to start the war in Iran. Done without Congressional approval or even a tip of the hat, the consequences to this action are becoming apparent to all after noting that Draco II had no plan after the initial “shock and awe” of (again) bombing Iran into oblivion. And now Draco II is getting “bored” with the war – just wants it over: the great plannerin- chief.
What happens if American democracy fails and Draco II becomes King of America. NO HOLDS BARRED! He already acts with impunity (he’s sooooo smart and knows everything), but when gaining his crown, Draco II will rule with an iron fist: anyone getting in his way, including Republicans who once openly supported him and his America First policies, but are now reawakening to democracy’s threat, may only oppose his absolute authority quietly behind the scenes because they too will find themselves in a world of hurt if they do so out in the open. Maybe just demoralized, maybe isolated, maybe sent to a re-training camp, maybe disappeared, maybe killed in some of the new ICE dark prisons and never heard from again, or maybe it will be your children this happens to, or another family member, or friends from your community, whatever, it ain’t gonna be good. It will be like George Orwell’s dystopian novel 1984 where there is full-time surveillance of all your activities (curtesy of big tech and their rich broligarchs) and you don’t get to have a soul: as a songs says “Step outta line and they take you away”. Maybe it will be your sons or daughters drafted to fight at a dictator’s whim without the ability to claim a bone spurs exemption.
There are so many BIG problems coming humanity’s way; if we try to attack them via dictatorship, extinction of our specie is guaranteed: dictators don’t give a rats-you-know-what about the planet, or people that can’t or won’t feather their nest. Only small “d” democracy will be capable of adapting to what is coming, small communities of individuals banded together working for mutual safety and living harmoniously and ecologically sound. Only small “d” democracies can adapt when Nature reminds us that she and not humanity is in charge of the planet, and that she does not negotiate – does not make “deals”, especially with her abusers. Only small “d” democracy can become stewards and custodians of Nature’s true ways, working with her as we co-create into the sustainable future, becoming aware and living by her knowledge of how things should be done. A world based on a global industrial and consumer civilization will perish: it is not, and never has been, ecologically sustainable. Humans are biological, and no matter how much big tech and Elon try to tell us that humanity is destined to become digital or hybridized or artifi cial, it ain’t gonna happen here on Earth. We have to remain a democracy to become a better one for the future.
