THS tennis team stand out in district tournament

The Tullahoma High School tennis team recently competed in its district tournament and impressed. They had several semi-finalists and brought home first-place medals in men’s doubles.

The Wildcats tennis team, as the season is now starting to wrap up, has a lot to be proud of. Tullahoma in the district tournament had a total of seven players make it to at least the semi-finals. Four of these seven players were also recently named to the All-District teams. These players were Tommy Pham, Eli Martinez, Mae Reed, and Ella Matthews.

Pham and Martinez, who make up Tullahoma’s first doubles team, were able to advance to the district final and take home the championship.

“One thing that drew me to the program at this point in time was an existing roster of players like Eli and Tommy, who not only brought talent and skill to the team, but also leadership. From the first match of the season, I knew they were capable of advancing beyond district if they worked hard at it, and sure enough, they went through district without dropping a set,” said first-year Head Coach of Tullahoma tennis, Kristin Luna.

Pham and Martinez defeated Warren County in the district title game. Making what Pham and Martinez did extra impressive is that, after being crowned as district champs, they had to race over to another game. The dynamic doubles duo for the Wildcats are both players on the THS soccer team, who are in the midst of a rather impressive season.

Pham and Martinez, with their district championship win, advanced to play in the regional tournament. That will take place on May 4, where they will take on Franklin High School in the first round at Page High School. If they win that matchup, they will move on to play in the regional semi- finals on May 5.
