City pays honor to police

The Tullahoma Board of Mayor and Aldermen honored Tullahoma Police as part of National Police Week, recalling those who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty – a sacrifice made by five Tullahoma policemen during the city’s history.
“It’s not an easy job,” said Tullahoma Police Chief Chase Sons. “Anytime the guys strap on a vest, they don’t know if they are going to make it back home that night.”
Mayor Lynn Sebourn pointed out, “Since the first recorded death in 1786, there are currently more than 24,0000 law enforcement officers in the United States that have made the ultimate sacrifi ce and been killed in the line of duty, including five members of the Tullahoma Police Department,” the mayor read from the proclamation. “It is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of their law enforcement agency and that members of our Tullahoma Police Department recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding life and property, by protecting them against violence and disorder, and by protecting the innocent against oppression.”
The mayor required flags to be flown at halfmast on May 15 in recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day.
