THS Co-ed Relay Team break state record

Some members of the Tullahoma High School track and field team recently competed at the Class AA State Championship, and there were many memorable moments.

The Wildcats had multiple podium finishes, with their greatest achievement coming in a group relay. Junior Brindley Duncan, senior Sadler Duncan, junior Emerald Tillman, and senior Kavyon Johnson formed a co-ed 4×400 relay squad. Despite having a limited number of races together as a team, they proved to be one of the best mixed relay teams Tullahoma has ever had.

They placed second at state with a time of 3:48.54. It was the fastest time ever recorded in the event by a THS team, and their time also broke the state record set in 2025 by over eight seconds.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they were going up against a stout Cherokee High School team, who are now the current state record holders for the event, posting a time of 3:45.53, which helped them come in first place.

“Each one of these athletes believed in the process and trained hard and excelled in their individual events. Emerald Tillman in the 400 meters had our fastest time this year. Brindley Duncan has been a dominant force in the 800-meter run for the last few years in this area. Kayvon Johnson had the fastest time in the boys’ 400 meters this year, and Sadler Duncan PR’d in the 400-meter run every meet this year, and his time was right behind Johnson. So it just made sense to put these four together to run the Co-ed 4×4,” Coach Steve Berry said regarding what went into putting the following relay team together.

Brindley Duncan also brought home two other podium placements for Tullahoma at the state meet. She came in fourth in the long jump with a jump that measured in at 17-1.25. First place in the event went to Leah Gregory out of Memphis East High School. She had a jump that measured in at 18-0.5.

Duncan, in what has been her best individual event, the 800m, placed third at state. She had an impressive time of 2:18.32. First place went to Maxine Richards, out of Signal Mountain High School, who had a time of 2:12.29.
