Steel company invests $23 million in Morrison operation
Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee, Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter and McNeilus Steel, Inc. officials has announced the company will invest $23.4 million to expand its presence in Tennessee by locating new operations in Morrison in neighboring Warren County.
McNeilus will create 55 new jobs in Tier 4, At-Risk Warren County as the company constructs a new manufacturing and distribution facility on West Maple Street.
The Morrison site will be McNeilus’ second Tennessee plant and will provide steel distribution services not currently offered by the company’s operations in Morristown. Upon completion of the facility, McNeilus will hire warehousing, sales, human resources, information technology, maintenance and management positions.
McNeilus Steel, Inc. is a family-owned, full-line steel service center. The company houses more than 5,000 unique ferrous and nonferrous products, which are manufactured and shipped from McNeilus’ operations across Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Tennessee.
Since 2019, TNECD has supported nearly 30 economic development projects in the Upper Cumberland region, resulting in approximately 2,700 job commitments and $797 million in capital investment.
“What happens in rural Tennessee matters to all Tennesseans. McNeilus is a family-owned business that I am proud will create 55 new jobs in Warren County. I thank them for sharing our commitment to building greater opportunity in one of our state’s most distressed regions,” said Gov. Bill Lee
“Tennessee’s business friendly climate attracts companies to the state, but it is our skilled workforce and quality of life that keep them doing business here. We know that McNeilus could have chosen to locate this project at any of its other U.S. locations, and we will work to continue to support McNeilus as it grows and expands in Tennessee,” said TNECD Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter.
“McNeilus has been delivering excellence and dependability along with the finest steel products in the country for more than 75 years. We are excited to expand our operations to Middle Tennessee, specifically Warren County, which has been greatly supportive on this project. We are thrilled to join the community as an employer that values the contribution of each individual and demonstrates concern for health, safety and well-being of our employees and their families,” said Zachary Ernst, general manager, McNeilus Steel, Inc.
“We are grateful McNeilus is expanding their successful operations to Warren County. The expansion exemplifies the strength of our workforce, commitment to job creation and potential of our region. We wish McNeilus every success moving forward,” Said Sen. Janice Bowling (R-Tullahoma).
