Lula Carolyn Charest, 85, passed away peacefully at the NHC Rehabilitation Center in Tullahoma on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2023. 

She was born in Huntsville, Alabama on July 23, 1938, to the late Bessie and Charlie Rogers.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Charest; son, Ron Walls; grandson, Ryan Walls; brothers, Jim Rogers, and Bob Rogers; and sisters, Maxine Dawkins, Imogene Oliver, Bessie June Certain, and Audrey Medford.  Carolyn is survived by one daughter, Renee (Kenneth) Gunn of Lynchburg; sons, Jerry (Faye) Walls of Estill Springs, and Don (Tina) Walls of Winchester; sister, Linda (Darrell) Scott of Manchester; grandchildren, Shanna Gunn-Niemiller, Jarod Walls, and Christopher Walls; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  Carolyn attended Faith Baptist Church in Estill Springs for many years.  She loved her church family and enjoyed the many activities and church dinners that she was able to attend.  She loved God with all her heart and often prayed for her family.  Carolyn’s life was always about family.  She really enjoyed University of Tennessee basketball and discussing it with her boys.  While some will tell you she was much too inquisitive, she only loved and cared and wanted to know how things were going for you.  She was quick to give an opinion, whether you wanted it or not but grew up in the school of hard knocks, as we were told many times how she had to walk to school for miles in deep snow or how proud she was to get an orange or apple at Christmas.  These stories and words of wisdom gave us something to pass down to our children and strong memories to always treasure.  Her greatest gift left to her children are the strong morals and values instilled in them, they have served us well.
