Wildcats wrestling picks up two wins at Eagleville

Tullahoma High School Wrestling team beat Eagleville 39-27 and Page 52-26 in the tri-match this past week. The two wins move the Wildcats’ record to 14-6 and gives them a 6-match win streak.

The first match of the night for Tullahoma was Page. Brodie Minor started it off with a win from forfeit. Sayvion Surles, Kiivon Butler, Andres Hamilton, Beau Banks, Caiden Mears, Corbin Avans, Connor Avans and Robert Tatum all won their matches. Surles, Butler, Hamilton, Banks, Mears, Connor Avans and Tatum all won by pinning their opponent. Corbin Avans won his match in points 11-0.

The Eagleville match was more competitive. It started with Tatum winning his match by points 5-3. Eagleville won the next matchup by points to tie the match at 3-3. Then Surles won via pin in the first period to give Tullahoma a 9-3 lead. Butler was awarded a win by forfeit making it 15-3. Lukas Agnell continued the winning for the ‘Cats with a win by pin in the first period. Tullahoma held a 21-3 lead. Eagleville won the next matchup by points to bring the score to 21-6. Banks and Mears won the next two matchups by pinning their opponent to give Tullahoma a commanding 33-6 lead. Then Eagleville won the next three matchups, two by pin to make it 33-21. Then Connor Avans effectively ended the match, by pinning his opponent in the first period to make the score 39-21 Wildcats. Eagleville won the next two matchup, one by pin so Tullahoma held on to win 39-27.

Over the Weekend Caiden Mears and Connor Avans placed at the Johnny Drennan Memorial. Mears placed second in the 144 pound class. He lost the championship match on points 8-2. Avans finished fifth in the 175 pound class.

The Wildcats will be back at the Welsh Wrestling Center on Jan. 18 for Senior Night.
