Arts Crawl brings downtown boom

The Tullahoma Arts Council annual Art Crawl was the biggest yet with nearly 80 artists plying their craft in downtown Tullahoma this past week.
The event is held annually on the third Tuesdays of October, according to Arts Council Chairman Greg Gressel who said that could be changing in the near future.
“There are potential future plans to include expanding to two events per year, one in spring and one in fall,” he said, pointing to how the event has mushroomed in the past couple of years. “It has grown from 15 to 20 artists across a handful of venues to nearly 80 artists across roughly 21 downtown business locations.”
Gressel said the event has a two pronged impact as it aims to showcase local artists while supporting local business. Foot traffic to see the artists also means foot traffic for the local businesses who are sponsoring the artists, he pointed out.
The Tullahoma Arts Council, which holds the event, is governed by five organizational appointees and seven members at large. The appointees represent Parks and Rec, the Tullahoma Fine Arts Center, South Jackson Performing Arts Center, the city and Motlow school systems.
“It focuses on expanding arts in the community, fostering mutual support among organizations and building a unified city arts calendar.
The event included local and regional artists displaying their work, ranging from vocal and instrumental to watercolor, acrylic, oil, pottery, and more, all interacting with the public by holding demonstrations and performances of their craft.
