Tauris Maymi has been bound over to the grand jury on the charge of first degree murder.

Maymi, 30, was charged with first degree murder for shooting a man at the Ambassador Inn in Manchester back in September 2023.

According to the warrant from the Coffee County General Sessions Court, law enforcement responded to shots fired at the Ambassador Inn, located 925 Interstate Drive in Manchester near I-24. After conducting an initial investigation, the investigator determined that Maymi did intentionally, and with premeditation, killed the individual with a firearm.

“Mr. Maymi admitted to the investigator that he fired at least five 40-caliber projectiles into the victim,” the warrant stated. “The last shot was ‘to make sure he was dead.’”

The warrant said Maymi admitted to fleeing the scene, and hiding the murder weapon, which was later recovered. The victim was later identified as Gary Edward Teague, 44, of Hillsboro, in statement from District Attorney General Craig Northcott. Along with the Manchester Police Department, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, Tullahoma Police Department, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation aided the Coffee County District Attorney’s Office in the investigation.

Should Maymi be indicted by the Coffee County grand jury on the charge then his case will be set for trial in Circuit Court at which time he could face life in prison if convicted the first-degree murder charge.
