Mayor Ray Knowis declared May 5 through 11 to be 2024 Drinking Water Week during the Board of Mayor and Aldermen’s second April meeting.
In his proclamation, Knowis emphasized the importance of water as a valuable natural resource, and praised the water sector. He added that Tullahoma Utilities Authority would be hosting a Drinking Water Week Celebration on Thurs., May 9.
Vice President of TUA Water/Wastewater Scott Young addressed the board after he received the proclamation from Knowis.
“Thank you, Mayor, we are very proud of our water here,” said Young. “As someone who’s been in other parts of the world, we are very, very fortunate to have the quality and plentiful supply of water that we do have.”
Young reiterated the invitation to the community to celebrate Drinking Water Week at TUA’s main campus, located at 901 S. Jackson St., this Thursday from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. He said there would be games, prizes and free pizza.

TUA’s water customers use an average of 3 million gallons of water each day. TUA purchases potable water from the Duck River Utility Commission, whose source is Normandy Lake.
About Drinking Water Week
For more than 40 years, the American Water Works Association has used Drinking Water Week as an opportunity to recognize the vital role water plays in everyday life for communities and water professionals.
TUA observes Drinking Water Week by encouraging consumers to learn about how important it is to have clean, safe water and the role clean drinking water has in protecting both the public’s health and the environment, now and in the future.
