Heat doesn’t keep AirFoilers down

The oppressive heat couldn’t keep the Coffee AirFoilers down this past weekend as they braved the triple digit heat index to help raise money for the local cancer support network.

Remote control flight enthusiasts gathered at the club’s air strip off Wattendorf for a day full of flying and raising money for the Multi-County Cancer Support Network. Organizers believe they raised around $5,000 during this year’s event. Despite the heat, 18 fliers participated in the fundraiser while numerous others enjoyed the shade watching the planes fly from the relative comfort of the facility’s covering.

The next major event at the venue will be the Giant Scale Fun Fly on Aug. 16-17 featuring large-scale planes and warbirds. The event is free for spectators and landing fees for fliers are $25. There is dry camping available onsite. For info email Nick@flylightning.net.

In addition to the Giant Scale event, the AirFoilers are normally on the field most Saturdays through October. Those wanting to watch remote control aircraft are welcome to drop in. Licensed RC pilots are also available to give free lessons for those interested.
